Senior

Senior Here you are—senior year! And while it is no time to let up, you can start to gain perspective and enjoy the achievements that three years of college are bringing to you. You’ve tested yourself, and you know that your health profession of choice is much more than your GPA and standardized test scores, important as they are. You’re continuing to develop your calling and your passion.

You’ve built confidence, knowledge, and character through the many academic and experiential venues chosen. Your senior year is about communicating this effectively to the health profession schools that interest you. And the Office of Health Professions Advising has a program with one goal in mind—the achievement of your health-related career objectives.

  • Engage in all aspects of the HPA application program. Monitor the calendar and HPA listserv.
  • Attend the Office of Health Professions Advising Applying Workshops.
  • Complete the appropriate application service (AMCAS, AMCOMAS, etc.); attend HPA workshops on how to complete it.
  • Assure the letters of recommendation from professors or others are on file at HPA Office.
  • Request HPA to Transmit Letter Packet.
  • Interview at health professions schools where you are invited; prepare with HPA Interviewing Workshop.
  • Accept one offer by May 15; formally decline other offers.
  • Participate in HPA “conversations” with deans, doctors, and others.
  • Test of academic rigor: What research projects have your done? What advanced courses have you taken?
  • Prepare for and take any appropriate standardized tests if you have not done so; evaluate your performance with the HPA dean.
  • Create a summer experience that will celebrate this milestone in your life.
