AP Math
Course Choices for Mathematics and Statistics:
- Only a minority of medical schools states a specific requirement for mathematics or calculus courses. However, some do, so you might want to check Medical School Admission Requirements (MSAR) for the requirements of specific schools.
- In our experience, the schools that require mathematics have accepted AP/IPC credit for that requirement; however, we can never promise that all schools will do so.
- If you love math and want to take additional courses in math, you should do so. However, in our experience it is not necessary to take additional math courses.
- Some medical schools have begun to require statistics. So far we don’t have much experience with whether or not they will accept AP for Statistics. An understanding of statistics is extremely helpful in medical school as well as in the practice of medicine. Remember that you will be reading about the results of treatments and therapies for the rest of your life. You want to be able to read them critically.
