MCAT (Medical College Admission Test)
The current format of the MCAT includes the following sections:
- Verbal Reasoning – passages in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.
- Physical Sciences – introductory chemistry, physics, quantitative.
- Writing Sample (two essays) .
- Biological Sciences – biology, organic chemistry, quantitative.
For more details on testing dates, times, locations, and questions about the CBT MCAT, see http://www.aamc.org/students/mcat/start.htm
We encourage you to register in December for one of the dates in April or May.
In addition to the concern over finding a seat (the number for each administration of the test is limited), choosing to take the test in April or May will allow you to know your score when you submit your application in June or early July. Your score may have an influence on your final list of schools.
Finally, if you take the MCAT in the spring and do not do as well as you feel you are able, you will have a chance to repeat the MCAT. However, it should go without saying that you should prepare thoroughly for the MCAT before taking it the first time. If you need to repeat the MCAT, you should alter your method of preparation to enhance the probability of improving your performance.
