The information in this section applies to Duke students and alumni seeking admission to medical school, dental school, or veterinary school for entry in the matriculating Class of 2018. It may also be helpful for applicants to other health professions programs, though some of the information will vary from program to program.

Important 2017 Dates

January 11 Spring Semester classes begin
January 12 Kickoff meeting for those applying for 2018 matriculation (repeat session) 6 p.m., 111 Biological Sciences
January 15 AdviseStream opens to declare your intent to apply for the 2018 cycle in order to receive a Reviewing My Application one-hour meeting.  Follow instructions in AdviseStream to schedule your individual meeting.

February 1 - May 31

One hour Reviewing My Application meetings take place
February TBA What is a competitive applicant?
March 10-19 Spring Break
April 1 Last day to declare your intent to apply for the 2018 application cycle, in order to receive a Reviewing My Application one-hour meeting
April 26 Spring Semester classes end (Last day of classes)
Mid-April Ms. Wahl will conduct a group meeting on how to complete the primary application. Watch for an email announcement of date and time.
May 1 AMCAS 2018 opens for entry on the AAMC web site
May 1 (exact date TBD) TMDSAS Application (specific for medical and dental schools in Texas, except for Baylor College of Medicine) is available on line.
May 1 Last day to schedule a Reviewing My Application one-hour appointment
May 1 - 6 Final Exams
May 31 Last day for the Reviewing My Application appointments
June Before leaving campus: Since applications are web-based and the application services and schools will communicate with you by e-mail, you must make arrangements to have access to the internet and e-mail over the summer.
June After your spring grades have been posted, have transcripts sent to application services and to any schools that are not members of those services. Be sure to have transcripts sent from all colleges where you have completed course work.
June If you are applying to any schools that do not participate in an application service, you will need to check their web sites for application information/instructions.
June 1 Your Letters of Recommendation (LORS) from faculty and other individuals are due in our office today (or earlier). Check your AdviseStream account: we time stamp the date these letters are received.
June 6 AMCAS Application opens for submission
Mid-June HPA's recommended target date for you to submit applications.
July - late summer Complete and submit supplemental (secondary) applications to AMCAS, AADSAS, and VMCAS schools, preferably within 2 weeks of receipt. Timely returns are important for early interviews and decisions.
